Cooking Cockroach launch at Printed Matter St. Mark’s

March 16, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm UTC+0

Join us at Printed Matter St Marks for the launch of Joey Truman’s Cooking Cockroach: A Guide To Modern Poverty on Saturday, March 16 at 5pm.

Watch the author cook a bean or two. While a professor gives him the grief. He’ll read one a chapter. Maybe field a couple questions. Beers and wines and whiskey.

“First we eat. Then we do everything else.” – M.F.K. Fisher

Author Joey Truman’s interpretation of this statement takes the desire to eat into a philosophical and practical question that can only be answered by another question: How do we eat when we are on the ropes? The answer: Well. We eat well.

It is hard to be poor, but being poor is simple, you don’t have any money. It is hard to be a chef, but cooking is simple, you cook what you have.

Use everything, waste nothing. Pay attention, and learn from your mistakes.

Joey Truman writes about poverty, disconnection in an unjust world, and the unintended consequences these take on the unwitting citizens of society. He uses magical realism as a way to transcend this in his books Postal Child and Parlay. He also writes about being poor and disaffected in Wyoming as a teenager in books like Killing The Math and the soon to be published Killing The Math [II]. He has a book about etiquette coming out next December and a book about bees called Ruiner due out next spring. All books from Whiskey Tit press.

Whiskey Tit is an independent press based in Vermont and New York City, run by publisher Miette Gillette, committed to publishing new works of intellectual rigor, playfulness, and visual beauty.

This event is free and open to the public at 38 St Marks Place.
