Until America changes, and I don’t mean the overthrow of Capitalism, nice as that would be, writers will have to live with what everyone else does. It’s not that people don’t value art and literature, it’s that the people with money only value it for profit, and that lack of value, unlike the wealth, trickles down.  We live in a perverted, horrific country and better novels or more readers won’t change that.
